SCI-FI • FANTASY • HORROR
The first fantastic genre competition in English in the Czech Republic, created in collaboration with the American Center.
Do spells, dialogues between space smugglers, or horror monologues sound better to you in English? In collaboration with the American Center, we are opening a brand-new category for authors who want to create in a global language. Whether you write epic fantasy, gritty cyberpunk, or dark horror, test your language skills and show us that your imagination knows no bounds!
Competition Category Rules:
Whether you are drafting a contract with a demon or a report from a space mission, things need to have some order even in English. To ensure a fair contest, please respect the following rules:
- Genre: Any genre of fantastic fiction (sci-fi, fantasy, horror) or any combination thereof.
- Length: A minimum of 2 standard pages (3,600 characters including spaces) and a maximum of 15 standard pages (27,000 characters including spaces).
- Language and style: The text must be written in standard English (with correct grammar and punctuation). The use of slang, expressive words, or dialect is permitted if the plot or character requires it.
- Recommended formatting: Times New Roman font (size 14), 2–2.5 cm margins, 1.5 line spacing, text aligned to the left margin.
- Required format: A file in .doc, .docx, or .pdf format.
- Original creation: You must write the work yourself, without the assistance of artificial intelligence (AI).
- Unpublished and exclusive: The text must not have been previously published anywhere (either electronically or in print) and must not be currently competing in any other literary competition.
Attention: Failure to comply with the above rules will result in automatic disqualification from the competition!

Ian Transue
Category Head
If you’ve ever heard a voice in an advertisement, video game, or audio guide and thought it sounded suspiciously good, there’s a good chance it belongs to this American who has chosen the Czech Republic as his home. For more than fifteen years, he has lent his voice to commercials, audiobooks, films, and video games – he has appeared in Project Remedium and voiced characters in 300 Dwarves. His voice has also been commissioned by brands such as Intel, Mastercard, and Segafredo Coffee. He is a traveler, photographer, film and music lover, Dungeons & Dragons enthusiast, cat lover, and fan of puns who has built his own recording studio, Wonky Paw. And because apparently one life isn’t enough, he has also worked in IT and as a tour guide. So if he happens to be suspiciously quiet while judging the competition entries, he may simply be recording something — or be lost somewhere.
Hana Ficková
If we were transported to an alternate reality, we would find Hanka Ficková on the bridge as the captain of the starship USS American Center. In our world, she serves as the head of the department of the same name. As an avid fan of sci-fi and fantasy, she loves to constantly push the boundaries of the unknown. She fulfills her passion for discovery as an ultralight aircraft pilot, an organizer of diverse language events, and an explorer of international conferences. And when she isn’t exploring the limits of space and time, she loves nothing more than to snuggle up in a blanket and enjoy a good movie with a strong cup of tea.
Karla Kovalová
A lover of literature and a tireless traveler through space and time. Born under the sign of Gemini, an unquenchable curiosity flows through her veins, making her life one long, untamed ride full of inspiring encounters. When she is not exploring new worlds on the pages of books, she wanders through nature. To aspiring creators, she passes on a clear message from Toni Morrison: „If there’s a book you want to read, but it hasn’t been written yet, then you must write it.“ Good luck!
